Flanges are important component for connecting pipes, but they are prone to corrosion, wear, and chemical attack. The right coating protects them, extends service life, and improves system safety.
Below is a quick overview of common flange coating types and where they are best used.
1. Hot-Dip Galvanizing
Features: Thick zinc layer, sacrificial protection, cost-effective.
Applications: Outdoor pipelines, water treatment, general industrial pipe racks – suitable for neutral environments.
2. Epoxy Coatings
Features: Excellent adhesion, strong chemical resistance, multi-layer system.
Applications: Underground pipelines, industrial piping systems, general corrosion protection.
3. PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) Coatings
Features: Very low friction, chemical inertness, wide temperature range (–190 °C to +260 °C), anti-stick, self-lubricating.
Applications: Chemical plants, frequent disassembly joints, applications where galling or sticking must be avoided.
4. Removable (Temporary) Coatings
Features: such as Rust Anti Oil, easy to apply and remove, protects during storage/transport.
Applications: Long-term storage, long-distance shipping, pre-weld protection.
How to Choose?
Low cost, outdoor mild environment → Hot-dip galvanizing
Strong acids/chemicals → PTFE
Buried pipelines → Epoxy
Long storage/shipping → Removable coating
Please choose the suitable coating based on operating temperature, chemical exposure, budget, and maintenance access.
